MSNBC takes the lead in innovation efforts for multimedia presentations

MSNBC wins my vote for the most creative interactive in a long time. Check out their latest package, Battle of the Bags: Paper vs. Plastic. My initial impression was WOW! The design is top notch and I have to credit fellow UNCer Evann Strathern for combining so many unique elements into one engaging story.

Flash tip: Tween Class

One of the advantages to using Flash CS3 is the ability to use the tween and transition manager class. This powerful class dictates how movieclips animate and function. For instance, if you are interested in adding an animation between photos in a gallery, check out the Transition Manager options. Highlights include the option to rotate, zoom, fade or wipe movieclips.Another subset to this class is the easing class.

Flash tip: Exploring Flash’s Date Class …

While creating one of the interactives for our Age of Uncertainty project, I got stumped trying to figure out how to ask an open-ended question such as “What day is it?” without having to update the answers daily. It was a feat to say the least but [...]

Although I am a bit behind to announce the launch of this project, I am excited to detail our latest multimedia project, Age of Uncertainty. We had our goals set high as we conquered this website in knowing we would have to produce a lot of updates with our frequent additions to the story. Seth [...]

Roanoke.com’s Hellgate interactive placed 2nd in BOP 2008

I am happy to announce that the Hellgate interactive that I led and produced here at The Roanoke Times garnered 2nd place for best multimedia package in the 2008 BOP awards! The judge’s comments were quite harsh, but I agree that overall a lot of multimedia packages could be more complete and it will [...]

A new month = a new me

Well folks, I’ve let you down. I started a blog without full commitment. But now, April 1st, I have decided to rejuvenate my desire to blog and launch what will hopefully be a weekly if not daily blog. No, this is not an April fools joke. My goal is to post my latest projects, daily [...]
