Although I am a bit behind to announce the launch of this project, I am excited to detail our latest multimedia project, Age of Uncertainty. We had our goals set high as we conquered this website in knowing we would have to produce a lot of updates with our frequent additions to the story. Seth Gitner used drupal for the back end of the site, enabling quick fixes and updates. I concentrated on building a personalized video player that handles full screen and mp4 capabilities. (The difficulties I faced building this player could and probably will be an entry of it’s own!!!) Combine that with an amazing reporter and photographer and you’ve got yourself one helluva story.
Need to find a nursing home in the area? Our database editor Matt Chittum has organized all of this information and more in our interactive database. Want to test your mental acuity? Take our online version of the Mini Mental State Exam. Reporter Beth Macy delved into the struggles of dementia in a marriage in her poignant story about Tommy and Linda titled, Caring for Tommy. Even better, photographer Josh Meltzer spent endless hours with this couple to tell their story with eye-catching stills and heart-gripping video.
I can’t unveil what other stories and interactives we have up our sleeves for the next updates to this project but it’s definitely something to bookmark and check back later. Our next update will be April 20th. ENJOY!!!
