The Got Milk? website is, by now, a classic example of a successful online ad campaign. Coupled with their “Get the Glass!” game, they definitely pushed the envelope in terms of usability and innovation. Think about it … even the names are engaging! Judging from my time spent between the two, they surpassed all of my prior expectations. Although I’m not sure that I am more inclined to buy milk now, I am surely eager to spread the word about these inspirational sites!
If you don’t know what I am talking about, allow yourself the time to play their games and other interactive components. I would be curious to hear how long others spent on these sites. I can honestly say that I spent 30 minutes on the “Get the glass!” game back when I first saw it, simply because the 3D animation is fascinating and the game kept me captivated for quite some time. For those curious how it was made, check out this behind-the-scenes tour. Looks like interactive companies h4che and Goodby, Silverstein & Partners get the credit for this amazing work. If you are an interactive ad guru, check out their portfolios for some high-caliber work and great inspiration.
Topic for discussion:
As you look through these sites, think about the time and money that went into them. Do you think it was worth the investment of multimedia and interactivity for this campaign? What do you think their main goal was in building these components for their audience? Surely it is not to sell milk (because people already buy milk) … so what is it? If del.icio.us tags say anything, the “Get the glass!” game has been tagged 3,487 times. If their goal was to attract attention, they certainly did that!
