Throughout the past five years, I have seen some pretty incredible multimedia produced by people I have met along the way. These talented people from my school, internships and jobs have pushed me to work harder. Although not a comprehensive selection, here is my list of top-eight audio slide shows from this group. Thanks for the inspiration friends!
Under One Roof, UNC Chapel Hill (Producer: Chris Carmichael)
This is such a touching story angle with high-quality images and audio.
A Reborn River Shrimper, UNC Chapel Hill (Producer: Courtney Potter)
This is an excellent example of how to edit a bilingual story with a voice over. She seamlessly blended the Spanish and English version throughout the story to provide the natural documentary feel.
Cloistered for Christ, UNC Chapel Hill (Producers: Kate Lord and Andrea Ballocchi)
This is another excellent example of a bilingual audio slide show with high quality photography and tight editing.
Phone calls from Papi | UNC Chapel Hill (Producer: Eileen Mignoni)
This story is extremely compelling, and even more so since the viewer can hear the subject crying during the interview.
Raising Emilie, PointsSouth | The Poynter Institute 2007 Summer Fellowship (Producer: Julia Robinson)
The beautiful combination of a narrator track, natural sound, and subject’s interview makes this piece so compelling. The narrator’s voice is soothing yet powerful, grabbing the viewer’s attention.
The Art of Sprawl, PointsSouth | The Poynter Institute 2007 Summer Fellowship (Producers: Tory Hargro and Amanda Determan)
This was definitely the most talked about story from the 2007 fellowship. Amanda took probably thousands of photos to create this piece, and Tory added subtle music to the background to give it a quick tempo feel.
Out of the mouth of babes | Roanoke.com (Producer: Josh Meltzer)
This piece has excellent natural sound, combined with audio from multiple subjects.
Diamond toothed Tolliver | Roanoke.com (Producer: Stephanie Klein-Davis)
Although editing the photos more tightly and including natural audio would have helped this piece, the humorous story subject makes it noteworthy.
Please add your all-time favorite audio slide show in the comments so we can create a rich archive of inspirational pieces.
