Waterlife by National Film Board of Canada and Primitive Entertainment
I came across an extremely inspirational site today that I knew would create a stir amongst the II community. Take five minutes to experience this innovative interface, Waterlife, and appreciate the possibilities with Flash. For a documentary about the water resource of the Great Lakes, I can’t imagine how much of their budget was spent on the Web site. Regardless, it helped get my creative juices flowing!
My only qualm is that this site takes a serious investment of time in order to do it justice. I wonder what the difference in user experience would be between watching a cleverly-crafted 30 second promo, and interacting with this interface for 30 seconds. Ultimately, this site can’t be experienced in 30 seconds, and I wonder if all users are willing to work for it.
What do you think?
[Hat tip to fcoel for the great find!]
For 70 years The National Film Board of Canada has produced and distributed amazing, award winning documentary films, alternative dramas and animation. Now they are producing online work like “Waterlife” or “Filmmaker in Residence” (http://filmmakerinresidence.nfb.ca/) Anyone who is a Canadian citizen or landed immigrant is eligible to work with NFB. Right now they are running the 2009 Cross-Media Challenge: http://www.onf-nfb.gc.ca/eng/news/index.php?id=2043
The NFB’s great FREE archive of films can seen here: http://www.nfb.ca/ It’s a wonderful resource!
Thanks for the heads-up Desiree! After highlighting this inspirational piece, I am curious to check out more of their work so I appreciate the links.
Hi nice post!
I am about to do a presentation on the website for my degree class, so that sound be fun
but this post helped me further understand the website.
But do you think that the websites construction and features take away from the Waterlife’s message.
Because i was taken back by the ace-ness (if thats a word) of the website its self. Good job Jam3media
