I recently watched “Did You Know 4.0,” a visual analysis of the digital world by design consultancy firm XPLANE. According to a blog post on their site, the video was developed with Keynote, and “the four and a half minute video visually informs about the brave new world of social media and newfound communication technologies, which have forever changed the media landscape.”
The videos remind me a lot of Michael Wesch’s series, “The Machine is Us/ing Us,” which I highlighted back in March. I absolutely love these types of creative thinking videos, because they always get my mind reeling about the evolution of digital consumption and the possibilities for the future.
To be honest, I had no prior knowledge of XPLANE, so the digging began. Initially, they reminded me of Stamen Design, the inspirational data visualization company based out of San Fransisco.
I love their simplistic company profile: “XPLANE is an information design consultancy that collaborates with companies to create understanding.” In looking through their Website, it sounds like they primarily utilize strategic planning and collaborative design.
If you want to view the digital world circa 2007, watch “Did You Know 2.0.” It is fascinating how much has changed in two years …
