‘Best of the Post 2009′ a multimedia treasure trove

This post is also available in Spanish

I recently stumbled across The Washington Post’s “Best of the Post 2009” feature and thoroughly enjoyed looking through the 21 interactives, 35 videos, 17 photos, and 27 photo galleries that they highlighted. Obviously the Post staff was quite busy this past year, and they certainly have a lot to be proud of from the wealth of content showcased in their annual round-up.

My favorite Post packages from 2009 were “Scene In,” “The DeOnté Rawlings Shooting,” “Fatal Flights,” and “onBeing 2.0.”

I wonder why more organizations don’t highlight their work like the Post round-ups. We all know that archives are underused, and this is a great way to promote buried content. I also notice that they use a template to quickly insert and update their content each year. Kudos to them for utilizing a clean template to easily promote their innovative work!

Make sure to also check out “TimeSpace: Top Stories of 2009,” which showcases the big stories throughout the year in their innovative map mashup. Also, if you missed the great guest post by Steven King, editor of innovations at the Post, make sure to read his insights now: “Inside News Innovations at The Washington Post.”
