Cisco Systems’ “You are the boss”
While developing my most recent multimedia package on the water-energy nexus, I spent a great deal of time thinking of ways to visualize this intrinsic connection for users.
We all know that many times the best way to brainstorm ideas is to look for inspiration elsewhere. The graphic artist working with me, Anna Carrington, did an excellent job combing the web for inspiration, and the interactivity of one site in particular by Cisco Systems, Inc. formed the crux of our interactive game.
Titled “C’est vous le Boss” (You are the boss), this site enables you to become the boss and make decisions around your office. Although it is in French, I encourage you to check it out to see how they blended 2D illustrations into a 3D office space. The interaction and movement is also pretty fluid, which provides a calming notion for the user. I was quite impressed with the site myself!
Once you check out their site, take a look at the game Anna designed and built, titled “Balancing act.” What I love about developing a site from inspiration is that you take the best of what you found and build on it until you create something entirely new. I was really happy with our end product, and I hope that one day someone uses our site as inspiration to continue the cycle!
