15 April multimedia must-reads
In case you were living under a rock this month (or, if you were like me, buried deep in final papers, projects, presentations and exams) you might have missed some of the more note-worthy links that I shared in April. No worries! I’ll get you all caught up by highlighting my favorites so you can quickly browse what I deem as most important. Of course I can’t track everyone and everything, so please share your favorite April read in the comments!
New York Times aggregates plethora of 2010 Winter Olympics multimedia coverage
The New York Times has been pushing out new multimedia coverage of the Winter Olympics daily for the past two weeks, and frankly it’s been difficult keeping up with them! Thankfully, they created a landing page to promo all of the packages – all 24 of them – for our convenience. Personally, I would argue that the best part of this gallery is the ability to see a broad overview of their extensive coverage, which allows me to think about the decisions that went behind what medium to use with what story. As you can see, some packages are step graphics, while others are map-based interactives, while others are video vignettes.
New York Times’ best interactives of 2008
2008 will be remembered for the historic presidential election, collapsing economy, financial bailout, Chinese Olympics, and the Iraq & Afghanistan wars … among others. What these all have in common is a great deal of data, numbers and confusing figures. New York Times, without a doubt, was the leader in creating successful infographics and stimulating interactives dealing with these high interest news stories.
New York Times proves it’s innovation with election wrap-up
New York Times just launched a summary presentation of the presidential election with an innovative video, including motion graphics, interactivity, photos, and archival footage from the past two years. Take note: “2008 Election – Choosing a President” is journalism at it’s greatest.
