CNN launches interactive visualization of Iraq and Afghanistan casualties

Last week I stumbled across the CNN interactive “Home and Away: Iraq and Afghanistan War Casualties,” and I was impressed at their ability to parse the immense amount of data into an aesthetically-pleasing and personal presentation. I am always interested to see how organizations depict this issue since there have been several versions over the years, such as The New York Times’ “Faces of the Dead,” and USA Today’s “Deaths in Iraq: A look at the American lives lost.”

Multimedia Must-See: “Ian Fisher – American Soldier”

Get ready to spend a good amount of time with Denver Posts’ latest piece, “Ian Fisher – American Soldier.” The producers spent more than two years documenting the enlistment, deployment, and arrival home of Colorado native Ian Fisher. Coincidentally, I featured another AP package in the first round table discussion, but it failed to spark conversation amongst II readers. Hopefully the same thing won’t happen this time around. Personally, I was extremely emotional after watching this story, and I am eager to hear how others reacted.
