Lam Thuy Vo, multimedia editor at The Wall Street Journal in Hong Kong, recently emailed me about a multimedia project they have been working on about China’s housing market. They incorporated simple motion graphics to explain China’s complex housing market, as well as produced a variety of other video profiles, graphics, and timeline of events. I particularly appreciated the introductory motion graphic video since I was unfamiliar with the topic. While I see a couple areas for improvement in terms of the information design of the package, there are several great aspects of the site that are well worth your time.
Sometimes the best inspiration I receive is from perusing the web by following links that I find thanks to many of you! Whether on twitter, del.icio.us, email, or the blogosphere, I trust my followers to pass along the best of the best, and today’s post is the direct result of that! Here are six excellent motion graphic videos that I have come across recently. Enjoy!
Lately, I have noticed an increase in multimedia projects that utilize motion graphics and animation to visually depict a story. While this medium has been used for years in the film industry, I would argue that it has been mostly underutilized in our field until now. Using Adobe After Effects, producers can either combine animation within a traditional video format, or use motion graphics as the entire video.
I recently watched “Did You Know 4.0,” a visual analysis of the digital world by design consultancy firm XPLANE. According to a blog post on their site, the video was developed with Keynote, and “the four and a half minute video visually informs about the brave new world of social media and newfound communication technologies, which have forever changed the media landscape.”
