Multimedia and social media coverage of the Haiti earthquake

The recent earthquake in Haiti has brought untold devastation and destruction to an already impoverished country. I have been highly impressed with the use of multimedia and social media to spread awareness about this natural disaster. People’s efforts to make Haiti’s crisis an international crisis by utilizing numerous technologies has enabled them to act quickly and efficiently.

Boyer submits 2010 video application for Nicholas Kristof’s “Win a Trip” contest

If you are wondering why II has been a little quiet lately, it is because I have been spending all of my free time completing my 2010 application for the “Win a Trip” contest with New York Times’ reporter Nicholas Kristof. I was a top-10 finalist last year, so I felt that I had to give it a second try. My first video was full of music, panning images, and content showing my humanitarian background. Thus, this year I decided to try something different and for my second video I took viewers on a mini tour of UNC to show my academic background.

Zach Wise produces New York Times’ demo reel

Until then, have a great weekend and enjoy this awesome inspiration from Zach Wise at The New York Times!

However, I believe that instead of feeling threatened by citizen journalists, we should be embracing their eagerness to help tell the story, and facilitate this energy to produce exceptional packages.

NCAA Bball tourney sparks great interactivity across the country

I filled out my first NCAA bracket today (although I am only familiar with a handful of the teams) simply because it was exciting to “play” with the different interactives. I’m pretty sure I changed my mind on every bracket, but if you promise not to judge me (because I am completely biased towards my Heels), I will show you the five brackets I filled out and tell you what I appreciated most about each design.
