September brings us 20 more multimedia-related jobs, internships, and fellowships. Actually, several of these listings inquire about multiple positions, so there are over 50 opportunities to choose from! Happy job hunting everyone.
Today we highlight 20 multimedia job and internship opportunities that we came across throughout the past month. Happy job hunting!
This month we highlight 20 new multimedia opportunities that we came across in our monthly perusal of job boards. Two are internships; one is part-time; the rest are full-time. And, just as a side note, Bean Interactive won this month with the most creative job ad, ending “If you made it this far and are thinking, ‘I am so perfect for this job they might as well have called it “[YOUR NAME HERE]’s New Job” in the listing,’ then we want to hear from you.” Love it!
I have been watching Zach Wise closely ever since I was highly impressed with his leadership role in the 2007 Soul of Athens project. He then went on to produce extremely engaging multimedia pieces at Las Vegas Sun, including “History of Las Vegas” and “Thirst in the Mojave.” Currently a multimedia producer at The New York Times, Zach has brought motion graphics into the journalism field from a virtually unknown concept to one of great potential. He has integrated an After Effects work flow at the Times, and continues to develop highly effective multimedia presentations. We are proud to recognize Zach as this week’s Innovative Individual for his evident passion, talent and creativity for multimedia.
Several weeks ago the 11th International Symposium on Online Journalism took place at The University of Texas at Austin. I stumbled across a paper that was presented by Cindy Royal, Assistant Professor at Texas State University titled “The Journalist as Programmer: A Case Study of The New York Times Interactive News Technology Department.” I just had the chance to read it over the weekend and I highly recommend it to others.
The recent earthquake in Haiti has brought untold devastation and destruction to an already impoverished country. I have been highly impressed with the use of multimedia and social media to spread awareness about this natural disaster. People’s efforts to make Haiti’s crisis an international crisis by utilizing numerous technologies has enabled them to act quickly and efficiently.
If you are wondering why II has been a little quiet lately, it is because I have been spending all of my free time completing my 2010 application for the “Win a Trip” contest with New York Times’ reporter Nicholas Kristof. I was a top-10 finalist last year, so I felt that I had to give it a second try. My first video was full of music, panning images, and content showing my humanitarian background. Thus, this year I decided to try something different and for my second video I took viewers on a mini tour of UNC to show my academic background.
After an incredibly busy week on II with our bilingual announcement and yesterday’s conversation-starting post of notable multimedia professionals, I am off to Cabo San Lucas for a long weekend to enjoy my fall break. Thanks to everyone for their emails, comments, and feedback on my round-up list. I have a lot of great ideas in mind as to how I can highlight individuals who I missed on the list yesterday, which I will implement next week. Until then, have a great weekend and enjoy this awesome inspiration from Zach Wise at The New York Times!
I understand the concern, but I never said nor think that journalists are being replaced by citizen journalists. We are trained to do our job professionally, with legit sources, ethical values and journalistic integrity. There will always be a place for journalists. However, I believe that instead of feeling threatened by citizen journalists, we should be embracing their eagerness to help tell the story, and facilitate this energy to produce exceptional packages.
I filled out my first NCAA bracket today (although I am only familiar with a handful of the teams) simply because it was exciting to “play” with the different interactives. I’m pretty sure I changed my mind on every bracket, but if you promise not to judge me (because I am completely biased towards my Heels), I will show you the five brackets I filled out and tell you what I appreciated most about each design.
